What you notify / file
Notify: Principal of the public school the child would otherwise attend; Written notice — Form 4140 (Exceptions to Compulsory Education) OR a letter of intent (child name, address, phone, birthdate, grade, parent signature); Before starting homeschooling.
Testing / evaluation
Grades 3, 5, 8, 10 (mandatory): standardized achievement test (norm/criterion-referenced). Other grades (parent's choice): standardized test result; one-grade-level progress; HI-certified-teacher evaluation; parent written evaluation w/ work samples; or HI Statewide Testing
